Welcome to our private studio, the home of hairdresser and artist Alexis Kelsall.

The goal in opening this studio was to create a welcoming environment for all, but especially those who don’t always love the typical salon experience. Having your hair cut can sometimes be a rather vulnerable experience and Alexis aims to make it as comfortable and welcoming as possible.

Alexis began her hairdressing career in 2003 in Atlantic Canada. She quickly became a sought-after stylist and spent some time working as a hair colour educator for Aveda. After moving to New Zealand, she found a home at a Takapuna salon where she worked for 4 years before founding Studio Blue.

After 20 years in the hair dressing industry Alexis is keen to carve out a niche for herself, allowing her clients to feel safe, at ease and relaxed in an environment that might feel a bit more like your nanna’s lounge than a luxury hair salon.

Alexis prefers to take a “less is more” approach to hair, revelling in how sometimes the littlest changes can make a big impact on how you look and feel. She views her craft as a collaborative effort between artist and subject and encourages her guests to have a say in the direction the haircut is going, allowing for moments of assessment throughout the process.

All hair textures are celebrated at Studio Blue, and Alexis enjoys working with natural texture to strive for a more effortless low maintenance style. She takes a similar approach to hair colour and loves creating low maintenance colours whether with natural or unnatural tones.

You will have the entire studio to yourself for the duration of your appointment, with no other guests or staff present.
